Scheer Memorial Adventist Hospital (SMAH) celebrated a major advancement in its diagnostic capabilities with the successful inauguration of its new CT Scan facility. The event was highlighted by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by key stakeholders, community leaders, and international partners.
For years, SMAH has served the Banepa community and the broader Kavre District with essential imaging services such as X-ray and ultrasound. However, the absence of advanced imaging like CT scans presented a critical gap in diagnostic care. This long-standing need has been met through the successful installation and launch of the CT scan unit.
“Our utmost gratitude goes to Adventist Health International (AHI) for their generous support in making this project a reality,” said Dr. Hector G. Gayares, Jr., SMAH CEO. “Their contribution, along with the presence of Brett Spenst representing AHI, AdventHealth Presidents’ Council, and the Scheer Memorial Medical and Educational Trust, made the event especially meaningful.”
AHI was formally recognized during the ceremony with a plaque of appreciation for their benevolent support of the CT Scan project. The infrastructure upgrade also included a 500 KVA Jackson-Cummins generator and electric transformer, both of which were inaugurated alongside the imaging facility.
A major highlight of the event was the presence of the Honorable Kanchan Chandra Bade, a member of the provincial parliament and a prominent figure in the local community. The connection is deeply personal—his uncle once hosted Dr. Stanley Sturges, SMAH’s founder, when the hospital’s roots began with a small clinic in their home.
Among the other distinguished guests were local officials and influential community members, many of whom now serve on the newly formed Community Advisory Board. "We now have active support from the community," said Dr. Gayares. "The love of God is transforming hearts and building bridges for the mission of healing."
The hospital also conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Hemodialysis and Ward Extension Building. This project, co-funded by LLUH and AHI, is currently in the mobilization phase, with construction expected to begin in late May. SMAH has already received 10 hemodialysis machines—a major step toward addressing the growing need for renal care services in the region.
Dr. Gayares concluded, “We praise God for wonderful partners and for the Spirit-led movement we are witnessing among our leaders and community.”
