Lusaka Eye Hospital has a total of 39 members of staff, including two ophthalmologists; four ophthalmic clinical officers, including one cataract surgeon; four nurses, including two ohthalmic nurses; a full optical team; and other support staff, which includes pharmacy, optical, accounts, housekeeping, human resources, kitchen, medical records, transportation, security and maintenance.
Dr. Janie Yoo, born and raised in California (USA), is an American board-certified ophthalmologist and cornea specialist, serving at Lusaka Eye Hospital in Zambia as the Medical Director since 2011.
She was a UC Regents scholar and graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego, with a major in General Biology and a minor in Music Performance. She obtained her medical doctorate and completed her ophthalmology residency at Loma Linda University in California before moving to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at the Harvard Medical School for her fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery.
She is a wife and a mother of an active toddler. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing music (piano and violin), reading books, snowboarding, and traveling the world.
Dr. Celestin Habiyakare is a Rwandan medical doctor who graduated in 2001 from the National University of Rwanda. After having served as general practioner for 3 years in Rwanda,he went for ophthalmology training at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Moshi, Tanzania, from 2004 to 2009.
He has worked as an ophthalmologist in Rwanda and Tanzania, and he has been working at Lusaka Eye Hospital in Zambia since 2011. He is a hard working ophthalmic surgeon,who has a strong commitment to the clinical and surgical management of his patients.
